GT:07 - Day 3

Tuesday was a day at leisure as we were staying at Château de Chailly for two evenings. There were a number of activities organised for the guests including a shopping trip to Beaune, considered by some the wine centre of France and one of the most spectacular towns in Burgundy. The fortified city is now a world capital for wine with some saying there are more than 100 kilometres of tunnels and wine cellars running below the streets. Beaune is also the home of the L'Occitane store; the creators of high quality fragrance and skin-care products. Many of the ladies were keen to pay a visit and returned to the Château that afternoon heavily laden.

For others, 18-holes of very competitive golf was the order of the day. Château de Chailly boasts the most amazing golf-course, constructed by the present owners and kept entirely for the use of the residents. This has meant that the course is in absolutely stunning condition and many of the players commented that they thought it was one of the best courses they had played on.

Our technical support team spent the day touring the beautiful surrounding countryside on bicycles whilst others made their way to a local vineyard to sample some of the best Burgundy wines. Some just spent the day relaxing by the swimming pool, enjoying the fine weather and dozing gently in the afternoon warmth.

A few participants sampled the delights of the Cote d'Or, a three Michelin star restaurant at nearby Saulieu providing a gastronomic experience that can be enjoyed so rarely outside of France. Before dinner, everyone gathered on the terrace for a Burgundy wine tasting at which teams were offered many different wines to try, and the services of a professional somellier for those who wanted to know more about the wines they were drinking. This was followed by dinner at the Castle!
